Songs for Dreamers

vflp This is a blend of post-rock, prog, folk music, and probably a thousand other things, and an album well worth your time. Starts chill, rocks out in the middle (really rocks out - some very cool riffs here) and ends chill - a concept album with a well-realised arc. Some of the synth work reminds me of Ryuichi Sakamoto's early solo work. Twice, in quiet moments, JB Fairfield asks 'what are dreams?' and I was taken aback both times as I realised I couldn't really answer him. Thoughtful stuff. Favorite track: I Sometimes Dream of Flying.

mattnewlands JB Fairfield keeps putting out awesome records in my opinion, and deserves more recognition for the quality of his work. He’s building quite a catalogue of work and hopefully some or all of it can get some airplay. This album is a great concept and every song is great on here. Favorite track: Imagination.

tpmster Engaging album from a self-confessed "guy who has been around". Crisp arrangements, well-mixed eclectic instrumentation, an engaging dream-theme and a stellar bunch of tunes. Enjoy! Favorite track: The Visionary Scenes That Pass Before Us.

Verse 1 I sometimes dream of an endless sky A place both outside and within I spread my wings in a deep, blue sky Another journey to begin. Bridge 1 At first I try to reach out my hand Until I stretch right across this land I wonder then how it might be An ordinary man can feel so free. Chorus 1 I sometimes dream I am taking flight Leaping into limitless space All too soon I must return to my grown up place. Verse 2 I sometimes dream of an endless sky Where it is enough to simply be We are all here in this deep, blue sky Or so it can seem to me. Bridge 2 I wonder then how it would be If ordinary life could be so free. Chorus 2 I sometimes dream I am taking flight Leaping into limitless space All too soon I must return… In this strange dream where I’m taking flight Leaping into limitless space All too soon I must return to my grown up place.

Madness 03:56
Verse 1 Echoes of my past surround me Strangers of my youth abound in me So it seems to me. Chorus 1 I feel the madness grow It builds as the winds that blow Can I believe in your love? In your love… Verse 2 My aloneness I’d gathered around me People that I meet astound me So it is for me. Chorus 2 I feel the madness grow Caught in the energy flow Can I believe in your love? In your love, in your love… Verse 3 Patterns of desire direct me The feelings of my youth rejecting me So it seems for me. Repeat Chorus 1 Verse 4 Tempest of the heart now take me The big wind blows for me So it ends for me. Repeat Chorus 2 Middle 8 Don’t be upset now with all these rants and ravings After the madness comes release Don’t be upset now with all my rants and ravings After the madness comes relief. After the madness comes belief? Repeat Verse 1 Chorus 3 I feel the madness grow It builds as the winds that blow Can I believe in your love, in your love, in your love, in your love…

Imagination 03:54
Verse 1 You can tell that I’m a guy who has been around I can think, I can work out what’s coming down I avoid issues that confuse me Things that don’t amuse me ‘Cause they make it harder for me. Verse 2 I can talk, I can blend in easy enough I can feel, I know when you are doing it tough But of course it goes without mention I don’t deal with contention Why can’t folk just sort themselves out? Chorus 1 I want to go where I want to go. I want to know what I want to know I am all-knowing, all is done to my satisfaction. Verse 3 I am a guy that always tries to keep it real I don’t appreciate people asking me how I feel Next thing they’ll talk to me about existence I’ll just keep my distance ‘Til the conversation winds down. Chorus 2 I want to go where I want to go. I want to know what I want to know I am all-knowing, all is done to my satisfaction. I want to be what I want to be. I want to see what I want to see I am all-seeing and free in my imagination. Verse 4 You can tell that I’m a guy who has been around I can think, I can work out what’s coming down I avoid issues that confuse me Things that just bemuse me ‘Cause they make it harder for me. Repeat Chorus 2

I never believed in fate I never believed in fate And I’m still not sure. I never believed in fate But if there’s no answers here What’s this all been for?
8.
Verse 1 I’m deep in thought; It’s all I ever seem to do; I’m thinking I’m only passing through here. It doesn’t help That people don’t understand me, And all the troubles that I see here. Chorus 1 So I pass my days I’m counting the ways I suppose I should change but I’m just a dreamer … a dreamer. (I just dream) Verse 2 I’m deep in my head; In awe at where these thoughts have flown; I’m wondering why I always feel alone here. I guess that it’s true; Even when I’m right I tend to end up wrong; ‘Cause all I ever wanted is to feel I belong here. Chorus 2 And so I pass the days I’m counting the ways I suppose I should change but I’m just a dreamer. There’s so much more I could do If I could see this through Instead I write this song, a song about dreaming. (I just dream) This is a song for all you dreamers. (Long may we dream)

about

What are dreams? Visions or delusions? Pathways to the soul or nightly absurdities? Do we dream when awake?

We are sometimes conscious that we are dreaming and other times we are not conscious that we are awake.

There is a brief time, between waking and sleep, when reality begins to warp. Clear, conscious thought starts to dissolve into the gently lapping waves of early stage dreaming and the world becomes a little more hallucinatory, our thoughts a little more untethered. What does this twilight period reveal about consciousness itself?

“Life is but a dream, within a dream” Shakespeare

For the last 12 months I have been exploring these kinds of themes lyrically and musically and am pleased to publish my conclusions in this, my first fully realised concept album! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed developing it.

about

JB Fairfield Brisbane, Australia

JB Fairfield is my solo musical project.

As a solo artist I find inspiration in many places - from medieval music to the present - and across prog, electronic, classical, psychedelic and post rock genres.

Various haphazard (and surprising) combinations of these styles occur as I try to understand myself and my world through the magic of music!
